Food and Mood

June 10, 2007 · No Comments

Gary Null was on PBS this morning doing a panel discussion with a number of doctors about holistic healing. One of the doctors said that people with minor depression can alleviate their symptoms with dietary changes before it becomes more severe and it needs to treated it with drugs.

I wish that this option was presented to me in college when I was having anxiety attacks and clinical depression. Instead, the system took the easy way out, sending me to health services to get free samples of Zoloft and talk to the school psychologist. While I eventually convinced them that I should be taken off the antidepressants, because I didn’t really need them, I didn’t make the food-mood connection until much later on my own when I learned how to take better care of myself.

Examining the roots

June 8, 2007 · 1 Comment

If you’re in the process of changing a behavior, breaking a habit, or creating something new in your life, are you getting the results that you want? If not, you should look at what you’re thinking to see why.

It all starts in our minds; Everything begins in thought. Our thoughts affect our feelings which influence our actions which yield our results. Therefore, if you’re not getting the results you want, you need to look to the roots - your thoughts - to see why you’re not getting there.

We all have the potential to control our own thoughts. The problem is that many people release their power to let other people or things in to take control. When you learn to refocus your thoughts on what you want, you can succeed at changing your life.

Yoga Solstice Celebration

June 7, 2007 · No Comments

If you’re a yogi and will be in New York on the summer solstice (June 21), consider practicing in one of the busiest places in the city - Times Square. There will be free yoga classes (and potentially a momentary sense of calm) Thursday morning and evening during the Solstice in Times Square celebration of the longest day of the year. You must preregister through the Times Square Alliance Website to participate - sign up before the spots are filled. I’ll be there.
