Wars arise from a failure to understand one another’s humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?

    That assumes an inherent goodness in all families. I imagine inviting Saddam and young Uday and Qusay for a picnic, and I think the other kids might end up with their thumbnails pulled out or something.

    But generally, I agree — it’s a lot easier to make war against someone you don’t know.
